VMF-251 launched into the wind and proceeded to circle airfield to form up and allow remainder of strike force to lift off. TBMs of Lynchmob proceeded W to target area. VMF-251 turned NW, with Killuminati proceeding SE.

At 9.11.4 VMF-251 turned W in to target area and continued climb to 25,000ft. Lynchmob sighted target and engaged, recording one torpedo hit on the carrier. Killuminati intercepted by Japanese strike force en route to Midway and forced to engage, lost with all hands. VMF-251 proceeded for target area.

At 6.11.6 squadron turned SW into target area. At about 2345 squadron encountered four A6Ms at 25,000ft. Wyatt ordered squadron dive for speed. CAP missed first pass and settled into pursuit. King and Bodie shot down 2348. Enemy fleet sighted, and Wyatt ordered attack. Squadron rolled in at 2349.

Wyatt and aJoust recorded hits on carrier at 2349. aJoust crashed 2350. Morgan, Gwardyak, Roche and Wyatt shot down 2350. 1Duke1 and Sidle shot down 2351. Hammer shot down 2352.
