After Action Report Date of Action: December 5, 2008 VMF-251 formed on NE runway at A148 at 2302 with seven Bf-109G-14s and two Me-262s. Squadron took off, directed to rendezvous point 11.10.4 to patrol target area of ground engagement. Squadron divided into flights: Red Flight Blue Flight White Flight (Me-262) Squadron climbed to altitude and proceeded SW to rendezvous point with remainder of group Charlie. At about 2330 contact made with enemy aircraft, primarily P-51s and P-38s and engaged. Sidle shot down P-38s at 2332 and 2335. Trol shot down P-51 at 2335. Wyatt shot down P-51 at 2336. Trol shot down 2335, Bodie crashed 2335. Engagement wound down, and squadron returned to A225 for rearm. Sidle withdrew to 229 with damage and successfully recovered at 2340. Remainder of squadron successfully rearmed and took off at 2340 with MEF4UD remaining in air, downing P-47 at 2346. MEF4UD rearmed at 0000 while remainder of squadron proceeded W into ground engagement zone. At about 0000 encountered squadron of P-47s and P-51s attacking ground positions. VMF-251 engaged in dogfight. Wyatt shot down P-47 at 0001 before being shot down 0004. King crashed 0000. aJoust shot down 0001. Morgan shot down P-47 at 0002, shot down 0003. 1Duke1 shot down 0003. MEf4UD shot down P-51 at 0015, and P-47 at 0028 before successfully recovering at A252 at 0031.
