VMF-251 took off at 2303, assigned to lead strike on A56 and A57 with 367th FG, escorted by Jokers Jokers and Hellcat FG. Strike took off and formed up with Hellcat screening ahead, while Jokers provided close escort.

Squadron climbed to 10,000ft with escorts above, and proceeded NE. Turned E at 13.7.1 for approach. 367th and Hellcat FG split off at 13.7.2 to strike 57, VMF-251 proceeded for A56.

Contact made with enemy CAP at about 2325. Coronado shot down 2325, but remainder of squadron reached target area and attacked.

Herder and King destroyed hangars at 2332, and Sidle and Morgan destroyed guns at 2332. Wyatt destroyed a gun and hangar at 2332. 1Duke1, aJoust and Fowler crashed at 2332. Trol destroyed two guns at 2333, but crashed soon after.

Sidle crashed 2334. Roche shot down 2334. King shot down 2334. Morgan shot down 2336. Wyatt shot down 2337.
