VMF-251 took off at 2303 with seven Spitfire Mk. VIIIs from A114, assigned to escort VMF-101 Nightmares to A11. Squadron began climb to altitude and formed into flights

VMF-251 took position in sector 8.3.1 and climbed to 25,000ft to await rendezvous with VMF-101. Bombers were sighted and took up escorting positions. Red Flight maintained top cover at 25,000ft, with Blue 2000ft above and screening the bomber formation.
At about 2343 package broke radar coverage and aJoust vanished. Contact made with multiple 190s and C.205s at about 02350 at about 25,000ft, dove through top cover on bombers. Blue flight engaged, followed by Red once all enemy attacked bomber formation.
Wyatt shot down 190 at 2353. Bodie shot down 190 and Wyatt another at 2354. Wyatt shot down additional 190s at 2355 and 2356. Roche shot down 2357. Bombers made their drops and began withdrawing, Wyatt ordered egress West.
King suffered damage, shot down 2359. Trol shot down 190 at 0000. Trol and Bodie crashed at 0000. Sidle shot down 190 at 0000. Wyatt reinforced withdrawal, Sidle spun and crashed at 0001.
Wyatt began egress out West, buzzed by C.205 but enemy ran to base. Wyatt grabbed altitude and turned for A114. On approach Ju-88s sighted over base. Wyatt located three and engaged, making several passes but unable to cause significant damage due to lack of cannon rounds. Wyatt disengaged and withdrew after multiple Bf-109s and Ju-88s sighted nearby.
Wyatt turned West for A105, and recovered at 0048.
