After Action Report Date of Action: December 18, 2009 VMF-251 formed up on A46 runway at 2302 with six Me-163s: Red Flight Blue Flight White Flight Squadron under order to launch upon call from Mighty 316th to defend V36. About 2335 radar alerts around V36 triggered launch order, and VMF-251 took off and climbed to altitude of 35,000ft. Wyatt ordered engines off and squadron glided to target. Defenses over V36 sighted handful of P-51s over target. Second group of P-47s followed and began dive-bombing attacks on base. VMF-251 engaged. Trol compressed and crashed at 2340. Wyatt shot down P-47 at 2341. Sidle and Wyatt shot down additional P-47s at 2342. Bodie crashed and Roche shot down 2342. Millsaps shot down P-47 at 2343. Wyatt landed out of fuel at vehicle base at 2346, and Millsaps ditched nearby. Sidle engaged with pair of P-51s, heavily damaged one but aircraft was destroyed in collision with remains of P-51.
