VMF-251 took off 2300 with 5 Bf 109G-2s, assigned to defend fuel depot at 8.14.2 alongside 364th. Squadron formed by flights:
Red Flight
Lt. Col. Wyatt
2nd Lt. Millsaps
Blue Flight
Capt. Sidle
1st Lt. Trol
2nd Lt. King
Wyatt deployed squadron to cover gap in radar coverage west and south of objective, and climbed to altitude of 20,000ft. When radar installations east of objective received alert, Blue Flight dispatched to investigate. Red Flight deployed as well when additional radar facilities triggered.
Enemy strike slipped around to N side of objective. Blue flight engaged hit-and-run jabbo strike while Red rushed to rejoin. Sidle shot down P-47 at 2338, shot down 2339. King and Trol both shot down P-47s at 2339. King shot down 2340 and Trol at 2341. Wyatt and Millsaps arrived and joined engagement. Millsaps shot down 2343 as remainder of enemy withdrew.
Wyatt pursued enemy with small number of aircraft of 364th, before withdrawing when contact made with large, possible hostile force to S. Wyatt scrambled to regain altitude and shadowed enemy, providing position updates to defenses at A35.
Wyatt engaged single Spitfire S A35. Additional Spitfires arrived and forced Wyatt to attempt escape, until A35 defenses arrived on scene. Wyatt downed Spitfire at 2359, and continued aiding A35 defenses until enemy withdrew.
Wyatt rearmed at A35 at 0004 and proceeded SE in search of targets. Joined fight S A66 area and assisted in the destruction of several other Allied aircraft, but no additional victories. Wyatt returned to A66 and recovered at 0048.
