Squadron took off at 2301 with 12 Bf-109F-4s, assigned to escort 5th Air Force Ju-88s in strike on C110. Squadron comprised of:

Squadron proceeded NE to 72 to rendezvous with bombers. Red Flight assigned to Top Cover, Blue as Intermediate, White as Close Cover, Green as Close Support. Bombers climbed to 12,000ft for approach. VMF-251 made rendezvous and proceeded with strike package to target area. Bodie vanished 2307. Downey crashed 2344. aJoust vanished at 2355. Santana disappeared 2359.

Unforgiven provided forward screen and sweep, encountered enemy aircraft and sighted fleet. Ju-88s turned to intercept. VMF-251 maintained close escort around bombers when enemy aircraft sighted, none able to threaten strike package.

Bombers made their drops then egressed SW with VMF-251 providing screen. Once back at 72, squadron rearmed. Roche crashed on approach at 0001. Fowler and 1Duke1 damaged in landing accidents and forced to recover at 0003 and 0004. Remainder of squadron completed rearm and took off to escort 5th AF back to target.

Unforgiven resumed screen and contacted enemy fleet. No enemy aircraft sighted. Remainder of 5th AF tipped in. VMF-251 then cleared to engaged fleet, assisting Unforgiven with strafing runs.

Wyatt destroyed gun on destroyer at 0033. MEF4UD sunk destroyer at 0033. Once remainder of ships destroyed, squadron egressed back to 72 and recovered by 0052.
